Social Media: Likes, comments, shares, saves, clicks, video views (over threshold)
Email: Opens, clicks, replies, forwards
Product: Feature usage, sessions, actions taken, time spent
Content: Page views, time on page, scrolls, clicks, downloads
Why Reach-Based is Better
Reach-based engagement rate is more accurate because:
- Not all followers see every post (algorithm determines reach)
- Reach-based shows true conversion of views to engagement
- Follower-based inflates as following grows but reach doesn't scale equally
Example
Instagram post performance:
- 10,000 followers
- 50,000 reach (post went viral)
- 1,500 engagements
- By reach: 3% (accurate)
- By followers: 15% (misleading)
